Country stores were so integral to community life in the Great Smoky Mountains that is could be argued there really was no community until there was a store.  Store were where you picked up your mail met your neighbors, got your news, told about births and deaths, and swapped eggs and chestnuts for salt and socks.  Join esteemed author Rose Hook as she explores the many ways country stores enriched the lives of mountain families in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
