At The Day Hiker, our number one passion is enjoying the great outdoors. For us, home is the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Founded in 1934 and at 522,419 acres, it is one of the largest protected areas in the eastern United States.
Because of its location and elevation changes within the park, one of the widest diversities of ecosystems, climates, plant life, and wildlife in the world are located here.
Although largely deforested in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the national park remains home to roughly 187,000 acres of old growth forest, one of the largest remaining in North America.
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to nearly 900 miles of trails, and we encourage anyone who loves the outdoors to come enjoy the views, wildlife, historic sites, and limitless possibilities.
For many, these possibilities can be daunting. What should you bring? How much water do you need? Should you have a backpack? What about shoes, clothing, trekking poles, and other accessories?
At The Day Hiker, we aim to answer those questions and meet the needs of families who have come to enjoy the park. To us, the experience of enjoying the outdoors shouldn’t be hindered by high price tags. Our motto, "Join the Adventure," is more than just a phrase. It's an invitation to all.
By lowering the cost barrier to enjoying our national parks while being prepared, we hope to give everybody the opportunity, no matter how big or small their checkbooks, to enjoy everything the great outdoors has to offer.
