The title of this book is a bit of an exaggeration, if not an outright lie. Most of the places described in these stories don't have any trails, they don't have paths, and they don't even have "man ways." At most, they have "bear ways" -- scant traces created by animals, not people.
This is a book about places in the Smoky Mountains that are off the beaten path, places that you've never heard of because most of them don't even have names, other than the nicknames that generations of off-trail hikers have given them. Come join us in our obsession with the hidden corners of these Great Smoky Mountains!
